One Person Killed, Four Injured in Lakewood Crash Early Sunday Morning

The intersection of West Alameda Avenue and South Kipling Street in Lakewood was closed for over 10 hours Sunday following a two-car fatal crash. According to police, at about 2 a.m. Sunday a vehicle driving eastbound on West Alameda Avenue ran a red light at South Kipling Street and t-boned a vehicle that was driving southbound on South Kipling.    The passenger in the vehicle traveling southbound was killed, said Lakewood police. The driver of the southbound vehicle and three occupants of the vehicle that ran the red light were transported to area hospitals with unknown injuries. The intersection remained closed for investigation until after noon on Sunday.    No charges have yet been filed in the crash, which is still under investigation.  Police are determining whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. Suspect Arrested in DUI Crash That Injured 2

COLORADO SPRINGS- Police in Colorado Springs arrested an alleged drunk driver Sunday morning in connection with a crash that injured two people. The crash reportedly happened in front of an officer waiting at a traffic stop at the crossing of St. Elmo Avenue and South Nevada around 1 a.m. The alleged drunk driver, identified as James Riggs, fled the scene but was found a short time later only a few miles away. The two people in the other car were taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity. In addition to other traffic offenses, Riggs faces a charge of driving under the influence. Elderly Couple Killed in Fatal Head-On Crash Near Granby

Granby, CO - A crash involving several vehicles left two people dead Wednesday afternoon. Emergency crews responded to the crash along Highway 40 at around 11:30 a.m. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident occurred when a Ford F-250, driven by Thomas Lang, 20, rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 20-year-old Gavin Laing. The Ford then traveled into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a Buick sedan. The elderly driver and passenger of the Buick, whose identities have not been released, were both transported to Middle Park Health-Granby. Both died from their injuries. The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was able to drive away from the scene with no injuries. Authorities report that the crash remains under investigation. Neither speed nor impairment are suspected as factors in the crash, and weather conditions were clear and dry. Fatal Accident Near Monument Kills One

Monument, CO - Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal crash that happened in Black Forest near Monument on Tuesday. Colorado State Patrol said Susan Zeller, 50, was traveling eastbound when she lost control of her vehicle and drifted into the oncoming lane. Her vehicle was then struck by another car driven by Nicole Brotz, 35. State Patrol reported that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Ms. Zeller was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. Ms. Brotz was also hospitalized with minor injuries. Colorado Springs Hit-and-Run Driver Identified

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 16, 2019) – A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcyclist in central Colorado Springs last month. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. April 8 at the intersection of Fillmore Street and Cascade Avenue. Police said an RV was trying to turn left onto Cascade when it collided with an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, was hospitalized with serious injuries. The RV driver, 39-year-old Brian Abeyta of Colorado Springs, was taken into custody last Tuesday. Abeyta allegedly drove away from the accident and police later found the RV abandoned several blocks away. Abeyta is facing several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury and failing to report an accident. Driver Killed After Hitting Utility Pole in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (May 14, 2019) – An 18-year-old driver died after crashing into a traffic signal pole in Jefferson County. It happened near the intersection of Ken Caryl Avenue and South Kendall Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. A sedan struck a traffic pole. The 18-year-old, thrown from the car, died at the scene. The driver has not been identified. The crash also damaged the traffic signal, closing the intersection for several hours while the signal was repaired. It’s not clear what led up to the crash but authorities do say they don’t suspect drugs or alcohol. The amount of debris surrounding the crash scene led investigators to believe the sedan struck other vehicles before hitting the pole. One Dead in Rollover Crash in Northeast Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO - One man died and another person was hospitalized on Thursday May 9th after a rollover crash in northeast Colorado Springs. According to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office, 20-year old Jose Robles was thrown from his SUV around 3:40 p.m. near Barnes Road and Purcell Drive.  Robles died at the scene. The driver of the other SUV, whose name has not been released, lost control of his vehicle while heading west on Barnes Road, Colorado Springs police said. He was hospitalized with serious injuries. Carbondale Teen Facing Vehicular Homicide Charge

Garfield County, CO - The teenage driver in a Friday-night car crash that killed one teenager and injured three others appeared in court Monday. Jesse Lloyd, 18, of Carbondale, is charged with felony vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault, as well as DUI and 3rd-degree assault.    He’s also charged with possession of alcohol as a minor. Lloyd, also on probation for a burglary at the time of the accident, reportedly had a BAC of .0153, according to an affidavit. The accident happened around 11:45 p.m. Friday two miles up Garfield County Road 102 (Fender Lane) from Highway 82. “They lost control and collided with a large rock,” said CSP spokesman Ivan Alvarado.  “It rolled and a couple of the occupants were ejected.” The ejected occupants were not wearing seat belts, he said.    One of the passengers who was ejected, Tyler Ribich, 16, a junior at Basalt High School, died of his injuries. According to an affidavit, passenger David Rothman, 19, suffered "serious bodily injury," after being ejected from the vehicle.  Henry Twitchell, 18, who was not ejected from the vehicle, also suffered serious injury. The fourth occupant, 17, suffered minor injuries.    The community is mourning the loss of Ribich, a well-liked and popular student at BHS.    “Families are welcome to send letters of support to BHS, and staff will deliver them to the family,” said Basalt High School Principal Peter Mueller.  “The family is asking for privacy during this ‘incredibly difficult’ time.” Our deepest condolences go our to all of those impacted by this incident. UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 41-year-old William Harrington. Colorado Springs - Early on Wednesday morning, Colorado Springs PD officers were called to investigate a deadly crash in Colorado Springs. Police are investigating the crash as a vehicular homicide. Just after 5 a.m., 30-year-old Vanessa Gonzales was speeding down Maizeland Road in an SUV. At the intersection of Maizeland and Wold Avenue, just east of North Academy Boulevard she t-boned a Cadillac as its driver attempted to turn left onto Maizeland. The driver of the Cadillac was severely injured in the crash. Damage was so severe, Police had to cut the man out of his vehicle. Emergency services transported him to an area hospital where he later died. He was identified as 41-year-old William Harrington. Both directions of Maizeland Road were closed from Academy Place to Dunbarton Lane. Police believe Gonzales was under the influence at the time of the crash. She faces charges of both vehicular homicide and DUI. This is the 11th traffic death in Colorado Springs this year, last year at this time officers had only seen nine traffic deaths. Woman Critically Injured in Denver Hit-and-Run

DENVER (May 2, 2019) - Denver police are looking for a driver involved in a hit-and-run on Wednesday morning. A woman was struck by a car and critically injured around 5 a.m. Wednesday while crossing against the light at East Evans Avenue near Holly Street.  The driver fled the scene. Surveillance video shows the suspect , described as a darker-skinned female, getting out of her car to check on the victim, then getting back in her car and driving off. The vehicle, described as an early 2000s silver or gold sedan, was last seen headed west on East Evans Avenue from Holly Street.  Witnesses say it may have been a Pontiac Grand Am or similar model. The car likely has damage on the front, passenger side, and windshield, police said. Anyone who sees the car or who has more information about the crime is asked to call police. Woman Sustains Moderate Injuries in Tuesday Morning Crash

A crash briefly closed the intersection of Colo. 392 and Weld County Road 43 at about 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. The intersection is about two miles northeast of Greeley. Officials are still determining the cause of the crash, but do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.   The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The accident occurred when the driver of a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle collided with the driver of a 2018 Dodge pickup. The 43-year-old woman who drove the Beetle was taken to North Colorado Medical Center with moderate injuries. The 34-year-old driver of the pickup was not injured. One of the vehicles hit and damaged a utility pole in the accident. Xcel Energy was made aware of the incident.
