STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (August 12, 2019) — Two people were seriously injured Friday afternoon August 9th when their motorcycle left the road and overturned along Colorado Highway 134, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The CSP said the accident occurred around 5 p.m. near milepost 14, about 13 miles east of Toponos, in Grand County. The location was near the county line between Grand and Routt counties on Gore Pass, or Colo. 134. The motorcycle’s driver, a 70-year-old man from Miami, FL, was emergency airlifted to Denver. The man’s wife, his passenger, was transported by ambulance to Steamboat Springs with serious injuries, said the CSP. She was initially found unresponsive but was resuscitated via CPR by an off-duty EMT and an off-duty nurse who were in the area at the time of the incident.   The motorcycle was reportedly traveling down a grade from the top of the pass behind a group of other motorcycles, when it suddenly traveled off the right side of the road while navigating a left-hand curve.  Both the driver and his wife were ejected from the motorcycle. Both lanes of the highway were closed for about 30 minutes as a helicopter landed to transport the injured man, who, according to the CSPl, sustained a serious head injury. Speed is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.   Source: Steamboat Pilot & Today Our deepest condolences go out to all of those impacted by this incident. Shaquea Smith, 28, faces several charges including vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and DUI – her second alcohol-related offense. Investigators say the accident occurred when Smith ran a stop sign and collided with another car at the intersection of Bruce Randolph Avenue and Columbine Street in Denver.    Smith, a babysitter, had four children in the car with her at the time of the crash.  According to police all four were unrestrained. A four-year-old girl, Alayah “LayLay” Harbin, was killed in the crash.  She was riding in the backseat at the time of the accident.   “I wasn’t expecting them to tell me that Lay Lay was gone,” said Geneva Petty, Alayah's grandmother. “I can’t even describe what I felt at that moment.  Just angry.
