70 Year Old Cyclist Severely Injured on Highway 50

cyclist hit on highway 50 by Rocky Ford womanOtero County(February 22, 2019)- A car accident severely injured a cyclist on Highway 50 Tuesday afternoon near Rocky Ford.

David Bumstead, 70, of La Junta was traveling along Highway 50 heading eastbound roughly 3 miles away from Rocky Ford. At approximately 1:16 pm, he swerved from the turning lane for Otero County Road 23 into the eastbound right-hand lane of Highway 50.

He was then struck by a Kia Sedona traveling down Highway 50, which was driven by a 54-year-old woman from Rocky Ford.

Bumstead went to a Colorado Springs hospital to be treated for serious injuries from the accident. The Rocky Ford woman was not hurt.

The Colorado State Patrol urges all cyclists to use caution while riding alongside highways.
