Cog Railway Project Employee Killed in UTV Accident

Manitou Springs, CO— One person was killed in a utility vehicle crash near Pikes Peak last week on Friday, July 19. According to the Colorado State Patrol, five people were riding a side-by-side UTV downhill when it lost its breaks and flipped over.

Three of the passengers had only moderate injuries, while one other was killed and another airlifted to the hospital. The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old William Waring.

The five people were part of the team rebuilding the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, which is being done by transportation contracting company Stacy and Witbeck. The company released a statement noting that the group was returning to the main staging area at the end of a shift and that it will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
