Colorado Springs DUI Crash Leaves 1 Arrested and 1 Seriously Injured
Colorado Springs (January 23, 2019) - Colorado Springs Police arrested a man Wednesday night following a single vehicle crash in northeast Colorado Springs. Police charged the driver, 29-year-old Damian Arroyo, with suspected drunk driving and vehicular assault.
Around 11:45 pm, Arroyo was driving east on North Union Blvd. when he seemingly failed to see a traffic roundabout at the Nautilus Point intersection. He proceeded to drive up and over the curb, straight into the center circle median of the roundabout. While in the circle, he hit a tree and the car rolled onto its roof. The vehicle then slid out of the center circle until it hit another curb and righted itself.
Neither person in the car was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The name of the passenger was not released, but police report he suffered serious injury and broken bones.
Police closed the intersection at North Union and Nautilus Point for several hours into Thursday morning. Investigators looked at excessive speed and alcohol as factors in the crash.
