Fatal Chain-Reaction Crash On Wet Roads Tuesday Night in El Paso County

El Paso County, CO — The Colorado State Patrol closed both directions of I-25 following a Tuesday night crash near Pikes Peak.

The CSP closed the interstate between the Santa Fe and Mesa Ridge Parkway exits in both directions after the crash.

The accident occurred when 24-year-old Aiden Detavernier of Colorado Springs lost control of his Ford Ranger in wet road conditions and veered into oncoming traffic into the northbound lanes, hitting a Kenworth truck.

Following the impact with the smaller truck, the Kenworth went into the center median and southbound lanes, where it collided with a Ford F350.

Detavernier was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police reports.  His juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries.

No injuries were reported for the drivers of the Kenworth and Ford F350.  All lanes on I-25 were reopened before midnight.

We will update this post as more information becomes available.
