Head-On Collision Between Deputy and One Car Kills One
ADAMS COUNTY - One person has died following a head-on collision between an SUV and a sheriff deputy’s vehicle on Thursday morning.
The crash happened in Adams County at the intersection of Highway 79 and 88th Ave., approximately 7 miles north of the town of Bennett. This is not the first fatal crash to take place at this intersection.
Just before 8 a.m., an Adams County deputy was traveling west on 88th Avenue in response to a call. His lights were flashing and his siren was on. He approached the intersection with Highway 79, made a “rolling” stop at the stop sign and proceeded through the intersection.
A white SUV, traveling south on 79 collided with the deputy’s car as it crossed the intersection. The SUV did not have a stop sign. A passenger in the SUV, described as an elderly woman, passed away in the accident. The Adams County deputy and the female SUV driver were treated for their injuries at an area hospital.
The identities of the involved parties have not yet been released. Authorities closed the intersection for the intersection to further investigate the accident.
