Police Seek Hit-and-Run Driver After Accident Involving Child
Colorado Springs, CO (September 18, 2019) — A young boy is in the hospital after he was hit by a car while riding his bike on Carmel Drive Friday Sept. 13th in southeast Colorado Springs.
The hit-and-run accident was captured on neighborhood surveillance video.
In the video, the boy can be seen riding his bicycle on the side of the road near Carmel Drive and S. Chelton Road, when a silver hatchback passes by and hits him.
Police are seeking the vehicle, which left the scene of the accident.
The boy, identified only as “Marlon,” was left injured on the road, and the video shows his friend dragging him by the arms to a nearby driveway. The video shows neighbors rushing out to help the boy shortly thereafter.
The extent of the boy’s injuries are unknown. A friend of the family said that Marlon is in a great deal of pain, and is speaking very little.
Witnesses say the at-fault driver did not stop to help. People who live in the neighborhood say the crash is especially disturbing because of how many children live there.
"You know, in the blink of an eye, that could have happened to one of them," said Yamilet Rosas, a mother who lives nearby. Police are seeking the public’s help in finding the driver. The accident investigation is ongoing.
