One Dead, Two Injured in Deadly U.S. 285 Head-On CollisionSaguache County, Colorado - According to reporting from the Center-Post Dispatch, one person was killed and two other people were injured in a tragic head-on collision that occurred in a rural stretch of Saguache County.

A spokesperson for the Colorado Highway Patrol told reporters that the crash happened on United States Highway 285, a few miles north of the town of Center, Colorado.

Based on a preliminary investigation, law enforcement believes that a Toyota SUV, which was travelling in the southbound direction, crossed the center lane and collided with an eighteen wheeler that was headed in the opposite direction. The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the names of the victims.

Head-on collisions are some of the most devastating types of motor vehicle accidents. Although head-on collisions are relatively rare, federal government data indicates that they are responsible for more than ten percent of all highway fatalities in the United States.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident. Though, Colorado police believe that excessive speed may have contributed to the crash. This case is still under investigation.
