One Person Killed, Two More Injured in Collision at the Cimarron Interchange

Colorado Springs, CO - According to reporting from KOAA 5 News, one person is dead and two more are injured after a collision between two pickup trucks occurred at the Cimarron interchange.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

A representative from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) told reporters that officials believe that this crash happened when a Chevrolet Silverado ran a red light.

The truck then slammed into an oncoming Dodge Ram that was attempting to turn onto the entrance ramp for Interstate 25.

Red light accidents remain a serious public safety problem in Colorado and throughout the United States. According to data provided by American Traffic Solutions, approximately 700 people are killed in red light crashes each year — and many thousands more suffer serious injuries.

Colorado Springs Police also believe that excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash. At this time, there is no indication as to whether drugs or alcohol played a role. The deadly accident is under active investigation. If you witnessed the crash or have relevant information, you are encouraged to contact your local police department.
