Toddler Killed, Three Others Injured in Colorado Springs Crash
Colorado Springs (March 11th, 2019) — A 19-month-old was killed and three other people were injured in a major crash on Interstate 25.
According to Colorado State Patrol, the wreck occurred just south of Colorado Springs at approximately 3:50 PM right before the start of afternoon rush hour traffic.
According to reports, a Chevrolet SUV and a Subaru were both travelling in the left lane on Interstate 25, headed in the northbound direction. The driver of the Subaru — a 23-year-old woman — maneuvered her vehicle to the right lane in order to make a pass.
When she pulled back into the left lane, she clipped the front end of the SUV. Her Subaru then spun through the median, slid along the guardrail, and came into the southbound lane — directly into the path of an oncoming Toyota truck. The two vehicles collided, causing the truck to spin and overturn.
Tragically, the toddler was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Both the driver of the Subaru and the driver of the Toyota were transported to local emergency rooms with severe injuries. A teenage passenger of the Toyota also sustained minor injuries and he was hospitalized for precautionary reasons.
Interstate 25 was closed for nearly four hours following the wreck while the cene was secured. According to Colorado State Patrol, neither drugs or alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash. Though, the accident is still under investigation.
