Woman, 60, Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 160 East of Fort Garland

Fort Garland, CO - A 60-year-old woman was killed and a young boy was seriously injured in a head-on crash along Highway 160 Monday night, August 5th.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Jack Holker, 65, was driving a Hyundai Elantra compact eastbound along the highway when he crossed into the westbound lanes.

His vehicle collided with a Ford Focus being driven by Sharon Duran and carrying an 8-year-old passenger.

Duran was pronounced dead at the scene, while the boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Holker was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities reported that everyone was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Though the incident remains under investigation, CSP is considering fatigued driving as a possible factor in the crash.
