Woman Sentenced in Allenspark Bicycle Accident
Allenspark, CO – An Allenspark woman who struck a bicyclist on Colo. 7 while driving under the influence March 17th was sentenced on Thursday.
Amber Okuley, 32, pled guilty in Boulder District Court to vehicular assault and DUI charges.
Okuley was sentenced to three years of probation and 75 hours of community service for the DUI, and a three-year deferred sentence on the vehicular assault charge.
According to an affidavit, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash between a Jeep Cherokee and a bicyclist near the 23 mile marker of Colo. 7 on March 17th.
The CSP said that Okuley was traveling west on Colo. 7 when she lost control and veered into the oncoming lane, striking a cyclist heading east.
The cyclist, identified as Mary Salsich, was airlifted to Longmont United Hospital with serious injuries.
Records state that Okuley admitted to having four drinks at a bar in Lyons prior to the accident. Her passenger was also intoxicated.
Troopers also cited excessive speed as a factor in the crash.
